- Procurement of material from sustainable and environmentally friendly suppliers
- All material is only procured from reputed suppliers
- Material such as sand, metal, bricks and earth are strictly purchased from suppliers that possess valid environmental and transport licenses
- Prior to purchasing material, test reports, technical data sheets are analysed to check material standards and random tests are carried out check on quality
- SIEM discourages the use of certain types of timber like kumbuk, etc.
- Pre- cautions are always taken to prevent the contamination of ground water from chemicals
- All sites are regularly cleaned
- All waste is separated and reusable material is stored separately
- Waste material is then taken away by local authorities to facilities for recycling
- Re-use of material with long lifespan. E.g.:- Reuse of plastic at sites such as pipework, scaffolding boards (Wood & plastic)
- No printing of unnecessary documents & e-mails to reduce paper usage
- Timber off cuts that cannot be reused are provided free of charge to various organizations of firewood
- Steel & aluminium offcuts are sold for recycling
- The surrounding community is given preference when hiring staff at each site for each respective job & then are added to the SIEM database for future reference
- Donation of books for children by SIEM to ARMOUR LADIES CLUB for their ‘Annual Book Distribution 2018’
- Donated a wheelchair beds to Sri Lanka ARMOURED CARP
- SIEM donates a meal on the last day of the month to a children’s orphanage in Nawala
Net Metering at head office;
Net metering is utilized by SIEM for its consumption and the excess
electricity in turn is supplied to the national grid as part of SIEM’s green initiative.
